Aalborg Privatbaner was a collaboration between three independent railway companies: AHJ (Aalborg-Hadsund Railway), AHB (Aalborg-Hvalpsund Railway), and FFJ (Fjerritslev-Frederikshavn Railway).
The Sæby Line, part of the FFJ network, opened in 1899 and operated the route between Aalborg and Frederikshavn until May 27, 1962. The line was subsequently shortened when the track between Sæby and Frederikshavn was removed; however, the remaining section continued to operate until the FFJ closed on March 31, 1968.
On these pages, you can read about the Sæby Line, with a focus on Sæby railway station—a busy workplace right up until the closure. While the station building, weighbridge house, engine shed, and private railway warehouse have been demolished, the customs house and the former D.A.G. brick warehouse still stand.
Today, the customs house serves as a bus station, and the brick warehouse—which has been significantly shortened—has been divided into rental units housing a small number of small businesses.
